The Official Fahrenheit 9/1. Reader by Michael Moore — Reviews, Discussion, Bookclubs, Lists. I don't recommend this book if you haven't seen the documentary, you really have to see it to get a feel for the gravity of the topic. I seriously recommend watching the documentary if you haven't seen it, so much in fact I would pay people to go see it (however you can look it up online for free).
I'll admit that I don't really follow politics or the news very much and truth be told, I've never really been interested because I know politics can get really corrupt and why stress about something I have no impact on right? Wrong. This documentary has really struck my interest and has persuaded me to become better informed on what is going on in the world and not lose hope that my voice or vote can make a difference.
The book contains a script of the documentary, political cartoons, essays and critiques of Fahrenheit 9/1. Michael Moore, thanking him. But most importantly, and mainly what I was looking for to supplement my viewing of the documentary, is the cold hard, back up and evidence of the information Michael Moore presented.
And he is so right, down to every last source. There is no denying that these are the facts and my mind is blown. Even more so knowing that Bush was reelected for a second term after this. It's important to learn from the past, and I think in this case it's important to note that, yes Bush was at fault but one man alone could have not been responsible for all of that. It takes a corrupt system to cause such an effect.
Not one single senator signed the objections made by the Caucus members who tried to challenge the assignment of Florida's 2. Bush.. when really Gore should have won Florida. Why did no one have the balls to stand up.
Because people who are influenced by money don't think about the good of the people but solely about their pocketbooks. And these people are running our government. Can you really blame them though, that's human nature. Give a man too much power and money and it goes straight to their head. Facts like "Congress did not read the Patriot Act before voting on it" makes me sick. It's like going to get a surgery from a doctor who hasn't done his or her homework. One would expect that people who get paid for doing their jobs, are actually doing them.
People in power could have gone against the act of putting America in war with Iraq, but no one stood up. WE as the people give these individuals the power to make such horrid mistakes and it's time for a change, not of a new leader, but a change in how the system works. This strict two- party system isn't cutting it anymore, and if America is going to make any real progress and get out the huge hole we're currently in, it's time for some serious kick- ass reform.
